The CM-12 is an upgraded version of the M48A3, specifically designed for the Army of the Republic of China. This modernization effort involved the conversion of existing M48A3 tanks, integrating 100 fire-control systems sourced from the CM-11 Brave Tiger.
The upgrades aimed to enhance the combat capabilities of the ROC Army, ensuring that the CM-12 could effectively meet contemporary battlefield demands. All modifications were completed by 1993, marking a significant improvement in the operational effectiveness of the ROC's armored forces.

China's CM-12 Tank
The CM-12 can be easily identified by its distinctive rounded glacier plates, which contribute to its unique appearance. It is armed with a 105mm M68A1 cannon, providing greater firepower compared to the M48A3, along with a longer armament that enhances its combat capabilities.
However, as military technology has advanced, many of the CM-12's weapons and protective features have become outdated. Consequently, around half of the CM-12 tanks have been withdrawn from active service, reflecting the need for modernization in the face of evolving battlefield requirements.
